Riversweeps in New Jersey

An internet gambling bill working its way through the New Jersey
legislator would allow Atlantic City riversweeps casino to take bets from
gamblers in other states and even other countries, as long as federal and
national governments agree it is legal.

The measure was approved Tuesday by a state
Senate committee . Nevertheless, the bill faces a series of obstacles,
including possible legal challenges, lingering objections on
the part of Government Chris Christie, and a riversweeps question by
horse racing fans that the state of being able to gamble on the
Internet may offer .

“This is another step forward toward my goal of New Jersey becoming the
Silicon Valley of Internet gaming, generating hundreds of millions in
revenue for our casino industry, thousands of jobs for Atlantic City,
and tens of millions of revenue for our Casino Revenue Fund to help
seniors and the disabled, ”said Senator Raymond Lesniak, a northern
New Jersey Democrat who already takes riversweeps the bill from the most vocal supporter.

New Jersey is racing to try to get the Internet gambling
off and the game involves a claim to leadership in a potential
multi-billion-dollar industry. The bill, which now
directs the entire Senate for a vote, would deploy to be accepted from
other states and countries like the State Division of Gaming Enforcement
defining non-violating federal laws. Internet gambling
revenue would be taxed at 10%, compared to the 8% that
casinos pay on regular slot and table gaming revenue.

New Jersey is ready to offer the first state riversweeps in last year’s nation to become
state gambling of the Internet, but Mr.
Christie vetoed the bill. The Republican governor
expressed doubts about legality and worried about the possible
spread of “internet cafes” and back-room betting joints.

Lawmakers have taken a number of steps to address Christie’s concerns, including
a ban on advertising and organizing Internet gambling
by anyone except casinos, and to require that computer
servers that handle the bets be placed in Atlantic
City Meet a state’s constitutional requirement that all casino
gambling take on tackle places in that city.

And the US Department of Justice in December ruled that
in-state online betting – not involving sports teams –
did not violate federal law.

But the language of the new law says that people in other states or even
other countries can log into servers and place bets with
Atlantic City casinos, provided that the gaming enforcement division
gives its blessing and such activity is legal in the place where the
gambler is situated . It also includes riversweeps the possibility of out-of-state
betting “if such wagering is conducted on an interstate
compact to which this state is a party that is not inconsistent with
federal law.”

Robert Griffin, CEO of Trump Entertainment Resorts and chairman of
the Casino Association of New Jersey, said the group planned
to meet Tuesday night to discuss the new legislation. He
refused to respond. His business is one of the many casino companies
preparing for Internet gambling should be legal.

A spokesperson for Mr. Christie did not immediately return a message
looking for comment on the extended work bill.

Tom Luchento, president of the Standardbred Breeders &
Owners Association of New Jersey, said the financial benefits of internet
gambling would come at the expense riversweeps of the tracks, which has declined since casino
gambling began in New Jersey in 1978. He said a referendum In
November to
subscribe to sports betting, both at casinos and racetracks – if a federal ban can be annulled – shows
the public wants both riversweeps sectors to succeed.
